Thermal Engineer
📍Hybrid 💰€4.000 – €5.500 🎯 R&D
About BlueHeart Energy
BlueHeart Energy was founded in 2016 as a deep-tech company that has developed a new sustainable thermoacoustics technology to radically improve the performance of heat pumps, enabling them to evolve from being the best solution in the market to becoming the perfect solution. Our technology is a disruptive approach to generate heat and cold, with potential to revolutionize the whole industry.
With our 'Blue Heart', heat pumps turn into affordable, silent and flexible devices, capable of working with wide temperature ranges suitable for both new and existing houses. Importantly, BlueHeart doesn’t require any refrigerants and doesn’t generate any CO2 emissions.
About the Role
As a Thermal Engineer at BlueHeart Energy, you will be responsible for the optimal thermal performance of the various components in the system. You will do this by creating thermal designs and by simulating and testing the various components in the system. You will model and optimize heat exchangers, regenerators, actuators, and acoustic losses, ensuring that internal thermal losses within the product remain minimal.
You are familiar with Finite Element Analysis, Finite Difference and CFD simulation techniques and software, preferably Comsol or Ansys. You perform analyses using manual calculations and software to estimate heat leak rates, thermal profiles and thermal deformation in the components and in the system. You validate these analyses through bench and prototype testing. You design these components and thermal systems to control the heat within the system.
You are part of the Research & Development team, consisting of five R&D Engineers, one thermal engineer and several interns. The team is led by the R&D Manager. The team includes people of different nationalities, so English is the main language spoken.
What You'll do
- Designing and simulating thermal systems
- Performing FEA and CFD analyses
- Performing manual calculations for validation
- Testing prototypes and analyzing results
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
What We’re Looking For
- Master's degree in mechanical engineering/aerospace engineering/physics
- Background in mechanical engineering/thermal engineering
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience
- Experience doing thermal analysis within a component (preferably heat exchanger specific experience) and develop own complex thermal/CFD models
- Experience with thermal FEA (i.e. ANSYS mechanical) to get heat flows, temperature profiles, thermal distortion within solids
- Experience with simulation/model validation/physical testing
- Experience with heat exchangers, regenerators, and acoustics is an advantage
- Able to perform thermal calculations, including FEA and CFD simulations (COMSOL/Ansys)
- Able to perform flow-related calculations (e.g., pressure drop, safety valve size, helium leakage)
- Able to define tests to validate the thermal performance of components
- Good command of the English language, both spoken and written
- Able and willing to work in a start-up environment, goal-oriented and adaptable
What We Offer
- Salary range between €4,000 - €5,500 gross per month depending on experience
- Opportunity to acquire ESOP, directly linked to company value creation and your performance
- 25 vacation days
- Hybrid work arrangement supporting autonomy and work–life balance
- Tailored learning and development opportunities to support your continued growth
- Access to OpenUp, because we prioritize mental well-being
- Participation in our pension scheme with employer contribution
- Commuting allowance, in line with our travel policy
- Contribute to a greener world and be at the forefront of a growing scale-up with big impact! Learn more about our mission here
