Controls Engineer – VCA/Linear Motor Concept
About BlueHeart Energy:
BlueHeart Energy was founded in 2016 as a deep-tech company that has developed a new sustainable thermoacoustics technology to radically improve the performance of heat pumps, enabling them to evolve from being the best solution in the market to becoming the perfect solution. Our technology is a disruptive approach to generate heat and cold, with potential to revolutionize the whole industry.
With our so called 'Blue Heart' inside, heat pumps turn into affordable, silent and flexible devices, capable of working with wide temperature ranges suitable for both new and existing houses. Importantly, BlueHeart doesn’t require any refrigerants and doesn’t generate any CO2e emissions.
About the Role
As a Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for developing advanced control algorithms for our innovative VCA/Linear Motor concept, where two motors operate in perfect synchronization to achieve ultra-precise motion. Your work will directly influence the performance, stability, and reliability of our next-generation motion systems. You’ll be part of the ESC team (Electronics, Software & Controls)—a multidisciplinary group focused on technical excellence and innovation.
Goal of the Role
To design, simulate, and implement robust control strategies that enable synchronized operation of dual VCA/Linear motors, ensuring seamless integration into the overall system architecture.
The Team
You’ll work within the ESC team, which brings together experts in electronics, embedded software, and control systems. The team is known for its collaborative spirit and solution-oriented approach to complex engineering challenges.
What You'll Do
- Develop and implement advanced control algorithms for synchronized dual VCA/Linear motor systems.
- Simulate and validate control strategies using MATLAB/Simulink or similar tools.
- Conduct Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing to validate control logic in a simulated environment.
- Perform Processor-in-the-Loop (PIL) testing to verify real-time performance on embedded hardware.
- Apply signal processing techniques to filter, analyze, and interpret sensor data for control optimization.
- Collaborate with electronics and software engineers to integrate control logic into embedded platforms.
- Analyze system dynamics and optimize control parameters for precision, stability, and efficiency.
- Document control strategies, simulation results, and implementation decisions.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to system architecture discussions.
- Continuously improve development processes and tools within the team.
What We're Looking For
Mandatory:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Control Systems, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in control algorithm development, preferably in motion control or robotics.
- Strong foundation in control theory (PID, state-space, feedforward, adaptive control, etc.).
- Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink for modeling, simulation, and code generation.
- Experience with real-time systems and embedded control implementation.
- Familiarity with signal processing techniques and tools.
- Analytical mindset and a structured approach to problem-solving.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with dual-motor synchronization or VCA/Linear motor systems.
